The accident and emergency department provides emergency medical services to patients who may suffer from trauma, cardiac arrests, mental illness, asthma and heart attacks. During care at the emergency, it’s our hospital commitment that we use the best of our trained health care team to provide assistance to the patient that will reduce the likelihood further injury, and ultimately minimize the patient from suffering.
Patients with major injuries are initially treated in the emergency department but later handled by a specialized trauma department. A trauma team, which is trained in the principles of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), takes over treatment of the victim.
Emergency services provided in the accident and emergency department may vary from simple x-rays and setting of broken bones, to activating a full-fledged trauma care team to take over management of the patient care. If critical care is provided within the critical time frame “golden hour”, chances of survival of the patient are greatly improved with the kind of care provided.
